Spring is morphing into summer, and with it comes all the beautiful, fun shades of spring/summer fashion. Haute Hijab has been paying attention to the latest in color trends and has you covered with their new shades of your favorite hijabs. Below, we make it easy for you to put together outfits by showing you which colors would pair nicely with each new HH hijab color.

Shades of Blush in Bamboo Woven or Chiffon

This blush shade is the perfect warm neutral and would work perfectly with warm spring colors like bright pink or purple. Because this shade is so neutral, it would also pair well with the season’s trendiest colors, yellow and lime green. For a bag or shoes, a deep chocolatey brown would accentuate this hijab beautifully.

This stunning shade is reminiscent of blowing dandelions on a sunny spring day and sunny daffodils that herald the coming of spring. The pale yellow shade matches well with mustard tones and warm orange shades. A neutral taupe or deep brown would be an equally beautiful, albeit more neutral route.

Shades of Lilac in Chiffon, Jersey and Bamboo Woven

Another trendy color, lilac (or pale violet) would be a beautiful hue to add to white spring maxis or casual spring looks. Think linens and wide-leg pants. Cool mauves or even bright blues are a match made in springtime heaven. For a bolder look, opt for a peachy pink or royal purple to pair with this hijab color.

Shades of Teal in Chiffon, Bamboo Woven and Jersey

This gorgeous hue will have you matching the sky on a clear summer day. To add some sun to that sky, accent your look with pale yellow. Alternatively, any pastel like baby blue, lime green, or pale pink, would pair beautifully. For a more subdued look, a deep mauve would add an element of sophistication without being too bright. We included Jersey in this list because although it’s Peacock shade is not new and is more vibrant (and bluer) than teal, it also pairs well with these colors. 

Shades of Sand in Chiffon, Bamboo Woven and Jersey

A true neutral, sand is a staple shade that matches with pretty much anything from warmer neutrals to deep purples to brighter colors like teal, green, or even fuchsia. If you’ve filled your spring wardrobe with bright, colorful outfits, sand is a great neutral to have on hand to complete your spring looks.

A must-have for those who gravitate towards cool tones, silver mauve is a gorgeous gray that is cool enough to pair with vibrant sage tones, neutrals and warm shades of pink. This color can be worn with so many different shades and hues and is definitely a staple.

The perfect mix between pink and nude, rosewood gives you all the femininity while still being neutral enough to pair with anything from baby pinks to burnt oranges. This season, brown is certainly the new black and rosewood suits brown tones so well. We included a Jersey option in Adobe Rose here as well, although it isn’t a new color, because it works beautifully with this color palette!

Shades of Pale Pink in Everyday Chiffon, Recycled Chiffon and Jersey

Arguably the prettiest shade in this lineup, pale pink is the perfect match for all pastels but also fun pops of color like hot pink or purple. This color is a versatile mix of bright and pale and will flatter more of your outfits than you might expect! Try pairing your pale pink Haute hijabs with these beautiful colors!

Color Your World With New Vibrant Hijab Hues and Coordinating Outfit Palettes 

If you’re looking to avoid last minute panicked Eid outfit shopping, trying to count how many days your outfit will take to ship and hoping it’ll arrive in time, you’re in the right place! I like to order my Eid outfit well in advance (I may or may not have ordered my dress in March … ) and this year it was so important to consider what’s on the Eid schedule for me to help me choose what to wear.

Everyone’s Eid will be drastically different this year depending on where they live, whether or not they're vaccinated and how this pandemic has left them feeling. Eid activities definitely dictate an appropriate level of comfort for an Eid outfit. (Not that you can’t wear a gown even if you’re staying at home!). We’ve rated some Eid inspiration by comfort level (five stars being most comfortable) to help you decide which type of outfit best suits your Eid plans! (Of course comfort is a subjective feeling, so keep that in mind!)

Coordinated sets are the dressy, sophisticated older sister of pajamas. These sets are not only insanely comfortable but inherently modest, and involve almost no styling because all the work is done for you. Opting for a coord is perfect if you’re not in the mood to put a pair of jeans or pants on after having worn nothing but loungewear for the past year. Just add your signature jewelry and your favorite Haute hijab for a cute and comfortable look.

If your Eid is looking casual but you still want to look stylish, opt for a pair of wide leg denim. Wide leg jeans are much more comfortable than tighter models, and any top can be tucked into them. Layer a cardigan or even an open button down over the top for an added layer of modesty. And to kick it up just a notch, pair with a Satin hijab! Or, if you want to keep that comfort level going, go for a Jersey!

If you’re planning on seeing people in your pandemic-approved bubble of friends and family, you’ll probably want to dress up. Skirts are very comfortable for being out and about and look classic, especially styled in this monochrome way with a top, hijab, shoes and bag, all in similar tones.

Elevated Eid plans require an elevated Eid look. In my opinion, nothing looks more elegant than a maxi dress. Personally, I find maxi dresses extremely comfortable while also looking very well put together. Yet, they’re very simple to style – just add a matching hijab (try one of the HH Bamboo Wovens for comfort and coolness) and some low-heeled pumps for a comfortable, modest and elegant Eid look.

Some of us have had enough comfort in this past year of lockdown and are ready to go all out with a statement Eid outfit. In my opinion, nothing makes a better statement than a good suit. Suits exude power and refinement and look professional, modest and stylish all at once. For a wearable suit, choose a neutral color and pair with other neutrals like a white shirt, a chiffon hijab and shoes.

The Eid Inspo Comfort Calculator! What Comfort-Vs.-Glam Level Are You Going For?

With Ramadan right around the corner, many of us are spending time reflecting on our worship from last Ramadan and our goals for this year. What went well? What can we do better based on lessons learned or things that didn’t work? In a quest to set a high standard for myself this Ramadan, I asked my friends and family to answer the following: “Last Ramadan I _____; this Ramadan, I _____.”

I received a number of responses, 13 of which I’ve listed below anonymously (at the request of everyone who sent me their thoughts), so that we may all reflect on our achievements or shortcomings and plan to exceed our worship from the past Ramadan, Insha’Allah.

 “Last Ramadan I completed reading the whole Quran; this Ramadan I intend to read the Quran more than once.”

“Last Ramadan I failed to pray tarawih every night; this Ramadan I intend to pray tarawih every night.”

“Last Ramadan I stayed up in the last third of the night to pray and make duaa; this Ramadan I hope to do the same.”

 “Last Ramadan I was pregnant and was unable to fast; this Ramadan I’m really looking forward to fasting.”

 “Last Ramadan I only read the translation of the Quran; this Ramadan I hope my Arabic will be good enough to read at least half in Arabic!”

 “Last Ramadan I let my temper get the best of me and lost patience with my children on multiple occasions; this Ramadan I will follow the example of the Prophet (saw) when he was angry by sitting, laying, and making wudu when I’m frustrated.”

 “Last Ramadan I complained too often; this Ramadan I made a goal to say one thing I’m grateful for every time I feel like complaining.”

 “Last Ramadan I slept in to not feel the hunger; this Ramadan I understand that that defeats the purpose.”

 “Last Ramadan I threw out so many leftovers; this Ramadan I’m going to make sure to cook just enough for my family to reduce food waste.”

11. Understanding the meaning of the Quran:

 “Last Ramadan I was too preoccupied with completing the Quran; and this Ramadan I will focus more on understanding the meaning of the Quran.”

 “Last Ramadan I gained a lot of weight, which I feel defeats the purpose of learning discipline in Ramadan; so this year, I will teach myself discipline through food when breaking my fast.”

“Last Ramadan with COVID, I was constantly in remembrance of the way Allah is in control of everything; this Ramadan I hope that I continue to see and trust in Allah’s plan.”

I loved that within the responses of my loved ones, there were both positive and negative reflections. To me this shows that we are all a work in progress and so, too, is our worship. What matters is that we do the best we can, and Allah (S) will know our intentions. Personally my reflection is: “Last Ramadan, I gave it my all because I was the least busy I’d been in years; this Ramadan I’ll be incredibly busy, and I hope to still give this month of worship my all.”

May we all make it to this holy month and may Allah be pleased with our worship.

13 Ramadan Goals Building Upon the Lessons Learned From Years Before

For Women's History Month, we are sharing stories of some of our favorite 

, female companions of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). These women are the foundations of our histories, and their lives are multitude of lessons for us all.

Women – the abilities of our bodies, our struggles and our identities – are a testament to an unimaginable emotional physical, and mental strength that is continually underestimated and undervalued by society. Umm Hakim bint Harith (ra), a sahabbiya during the time of the Prophet Muhammad (saw), was the embodiment of this strength.

Umm Hakim (ra) accepted Islam on the day of the conquest of Makkah after having been present at the battle of Uhud opposite of the Muslims. She had been a part of a group of women beating drums to lead the soldiers of Quraysh into battle. Yet, she was able to recognize her ignorance, unlearn her previous biases, and changed her beliefs with grace when she accepted Islam and guided her husband to Islam as well. Not long after, her husband, brother and father were all martyred in the battle of Yarmouk.

The devastating loss of three of the closest people in her life did not shake her faith and hope. She was committed to her Islam and her Lord. Eventually, she agreed to remarry to Umayyad commander Khalid ibn Said.

On the day of their wedding as they celebrated with their guests, 

. Glasses shattered to the floor, forks were abandoned mid-bite and all mirth was forgotten as the guests began to fend off the attackers. As fighting ensued, Umm Hakim (ra) watched her second husband be martyred by the Byzantines in front of her very eyes. She clutched her wedding dress in her arms, dislodged the pole of the wedding tent and joined the fighting. With just the pole, despair and sheer strength, she slayed seven Byzantine men.

Umm Hakim (ra) would go on to later marry Umar ibn al Khattab.

Although not many of us (certainly not myself) have had to take up arms against those who have murdered our husband on the day of our wedding after having mourned our father, brother, and a prior husband, Many of us have had to exert great physical strength despite emotional distress and many of us have sought to educate ourselves in order to unlearn previous ignorant beliefs.

Women must be unconditionally present for their children without having the time to process their own emotional trauma. Women must fight every single day to be perceived as anything more than pretty vessels. Women must exist in societies in which we work harder and make less. Women must experience those who expect us to minimize our strength into meekness to fit cultural norms. Women must constantly educate ourselves on the intersections between our struggle as women and the other identities of ourselves and those around us.

The people I most admire and am most impressed with are always women, and the trait of theirs I aspire to espouse is their sheer emotional and physical strength in the face of discrimination, inequality, violation, injustice – or even of a Byzantine army.

7 Black-Owned Businesses You Can Support Right Now

I finally bit the bullet recently and ordered a couple of the 

. This decision came after months of being discouraged about working out but wanting to lose the weight I’d gained during the lockdown, and uncomfortable attempts at exercising in regular wrap-around hijabs. (Full disclosure: I have covered fashion for “The Haute Take” at Haute Hijab for nearly two years. This review is something my editor asked me to do, and do so with my honest opinion.)

I’d never tried other sport hijabs on the market because they always looked embarrassingly unflattering, and I value looking presentable, even when sweaty and gasping for air.

, I found myself scrolling through the options. I was unsurprised that the only sport hijab that looked both flattering and functional was designed by a team of actual hijab-wearing women 

led by a designer who immersed herself in the experience

, unlike sport hijabs from other mainstream brands. 

Despite this, I was unsure if they would be worth it for someone like me who does mostly intermediate workouts – nothing too intense, nowhere near being a hardcore athlete. Ultimately, I decided that the HH Sport hijabs would motivate me to workout more. I’ve now been using and loving them for two months and wanted to share my thoughts on them as a regular gal who does very regular workouts.

The layered front suits my face and the color goes with all of my workout clothes. The Criss-Cross has no loose-ends – everything is tucked in or tucked away, so this hijab would be so convenient for intense team sports or runs. The hijab is so lightweight and comfortable that I almost forgot I was wearing it!

Perhaps the best thing about the Criss-Cross is the absolute unlimited mobility it allows. You can move in any which way without worrying about your neck showing or hair peeking through. The material is also sweat-wicking, so you can feel as confident as you are comfortable. Overall, I ended up liking the Criss-Cross much more than I had anticipated, and it’s become my go-to for runs and other more intense workouts.

The Tech Cap + Tech Wrap combination felt more familiar to me, as it’s more similar to the hijabs I wear daily. I used my 

 to secure it under my chin and looped the long part around my neck. I never imagined a hijab could be more comfortable than my 

 but this hijab somehow is. Despite being looser than the Criss-Cross (depending on how you wrap it), this hijab remains incredibly functional. The Tech Cap does not move at all and serves as a comfortable base for the Tech Wrap.

This hijab is perfect for activities like pilates, barre, yoga or other intermediate intensity exercises. Although I love both, I think this one is more versatile as it can also be worn inconspicuously to run errands, drop off the kids and even on casual days at school or the office on days when you crave comfort.

Overall, I was already impressed with the 

 before even receiving them because of the flattering and functional design and I found myself somehow even more impressed after using them for a couple of months now. They are practical without sacrificing style and above all, lightweight and comfortable. It makes a difference when women who wear sport hijabs are involved in designing them.

HH Sport Review: Tested on Real Life Workouts (Because Sport is for Everyone!)

It’s not often that the consumerist world of fashion reflects current social movements and events. In fact, fashion brands often find themselves on the receiving end of criticism for sheer ignorance of the affairs of normal folk like us. However, this year, it appears that the fashion industry has been listening and watching.

With the global COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 came mass layoffs, bankruptcies and business closures as well as a growing embrace of all things comfortable. The fashion trends emerging in 2021 reflect these changes by recycling many of 2020’s fashion trends. Designers are more cognizant that money is tight for many, and by not introducing all new trends, there is less of a need for fashion lovers to buy a lot of new pieces to work new trends into their wardrobes. This also gives us all a chance to wear the 2020 trends that went unnoticed by the sweat suit-clad masses last year.

So, dig into your closet! Chances are you may already own many of these trend pieces, so let’s style them and look our best, whether we’re appearing in our umpteenth virtual meeting or are able to go out and safely meet loved ones!

This trend has been around for several seasons now and thankfully, especially for us hijabis, it isn’t going anywhere. Dig out your 

hijabs, ladies, because they’ll add the perfect on-trend touch to any outfit. Also, if you’re interested in trying squares and don’t know, check out 

Early street style in 2020 BC (before corona) featured bright and pastel tones reminiscent of Easter eggs. Think blazers, trousers, and blouses in bold and pastel yellows, pinks, purples and blues. These colors are perfect for the upcoming spring and summer, so bring them out of your closet again, ladies!

Another trend that has been around for a long time, leather is back in unconventional pieces like this long pinafore, wide leg pants, and trench coats. The key to wearing leather modestly (and comfortably) is looking for pieces with a wider fit.

A break-out trend from 2020 (and a throwback to the ‘90s, which is big right now), chunky shoes included thick soled boots and loafers as well as platform sneakers and dad sandals. Part edgy, part sophisticated, we love them for their utilitarianism and comfort.

Step aside beige, because 2021 brings about a new it-neutral: brown. All shades! Although not as popular in 2020, most of us have quite a few brown pieces in our wardrobes already – whether trousers, comfortable knits or silky tops – and this is the year we should work them into our regular repertoire!

Another trend that has lasted several seasons is that of the oversized fit. This season, the focus is on big shoulders ('80s throwback!) and even bigger pants. If you haven’t invested in this trend in the past, don’t be shy to borrow from the closet of your husband, brother or father for a perfectly imperfect oversized fit without the price tag.

It appears that this year, trends are a lot more relaxed – follow them or don’t follow them. It feels like the world as a whole, including the fashion industry, recognizes there are more important things to fret about at present. Let’s dive into our closets! We’re pretty sure you have many of the trends discussed above. Have fun with it, because keeping some fun in our lives is so key to pushing forward in pandemic times.

Looking at 2021 Fashion Trends – The Repeat We All Need

With vaccines being distributed worldwide and different school systems opening up, it’s natural that some of us may soon head back to the office. Although the change of scenery and pace may be welcome and exciting, for many of us the change in dress code is not. It’s hard to imagine wearing heels and button-downs after nearly a year in fuzzy slippers and pajamas. But instead of returning to your pre-lockdown work wardrobe, we have some ways you can swap your sloppy favorites for sophisticated pieces without sacrificing comfort.

And the best part? If you’re not returning to the office anytime soon and continue to remain at home, these tips for a comfortable work wardrobe may help you get re-motivated and re-energized in your work!

1. Swap Sloppy Sweatshirts for Sophisticated Knits

The unrivaled hero piece in lockdown wardrobes everywhere, sweatshirts have become a uniform for many of us. They’re simple, cozy and feel like a hug. Unfortunately though, they also look too sloppy for the office. Luckily, thick knits are just as cozy (if not more so) and look very professional styled with trousers or under a blazer for cold winter weekdays.

2. Swap Sloppy PJs for Sophisticated PJ-Style Blouses

Let’s face it. Sometimes, it’s hard to get out of bed, much less get changed. On those days, many of us threw a hijab on top of our PJs for Zoom calls and called it a day. Now that we may be reporting to the office more often, swapping a PJ top for a PJ-style blouse is the perfect comfortable alternative that looks classy but feels lazy.

3. Swap Sloppy Sweatpants for Sophisticated Wide-Leg Trousers

There are so many reasons we love sweatpants but two of the main ones are the ease of mobility and the softness of them. (Also elastic waist, right?) Wide leg trousers are non-restrictive and can be just as soft to wear. They give off a polished look but feel just as comfortable as our sloppy sweats.

4. Swap a Sloppy Robe for a Sophisticated Long Cardigan

If you’re like me, you’ve probably used your robe for everything this past year - a prayer outfit, covering up pajamas when you open the door for deliveries, and even as a blanket. Thick long cardigans can serve all of those purposes and more because they also happen to be professional enough to throw on top of any work outfit for more modesty and coziness.

5. Swap Sloppy Slippers for Sophisticated Sneakers

Nothing can truly replace fluffy slippers but sneakers are almost as comfortable and a pair in sharp white can be dressed up to business casual. Opt for a minimal design in mostly white to keep your look sleek, and your feet will thank you after a long day at the office. Because even if returning to the office means a few days a week or half-days, it’s going to feel like a weirdly long day!

So go ahead and ease into some office wear, whether you're actually headed back to a physical office or continuing to work from home! Either way, transitioning to some more professional (albeit still comfortable and casual) wear maybe just the step we all need.
