Our Bamboo Woven in Deep Fuchsia
We don’t know if you’ve noticed, but just in case you haven’t – Woven hijabs are having a moment! After a much-anticipated wait, all your favorite Bamboo Woven colors are back in stock, as well as the debut of our fall/winter woven colors PLUS our brand new Bamboo Woven Print collection. All this Wovens excitement has us buzzing, so let’s spend the last monthly edit of the year talking about these beauties!
Our Bamboo Wovens were our first existing hijab line that we revisited to see if they could be produced in a more sustainable way. Sustainability is not a new concept for Haute Hijab; our commitment to making sure new products (like our Haute Hijab Sport and our Ultimate Underscarves before that) are created more sustainably with more eco-friendly fabrics is coupled with a look at existing hijab lines as well to see what can be produced more sustainably.

With this in mind, back in 2020 we delved deep into the world of woven fabrics, drawing on our own learning and experience of using bamboo for our Ultimate Underscarves, studying the bamboo plant further and drawing on research by companies like Patagonia to understand how it performs, why it’s a better, natural plant to work with and how to make a fabric out of it that had a more gentle impact on the environment. This is how our Bamboo Wovens came to be.
We landed up on Bamboo as the fiber we wanted to use for this new iteration of our Wovens for several reasons. Bamboo as a plant and fiber has several unique and superior characteristics as touted by many in the fashion industry, including breathability, moisture wicking and anti-bacterial properties. However, upon further study of several scientific studies, what bamboo actually does in regards to these characteristics is perform more effectively than cotton or polyester in transferring heat away from the face and head.
Read more about the science behind it here.
With its debut in October of 2020, these Bamboo wovens have become a staple in so many of our hijab repertoires, with all the base colors recently being restocked as well as four gorgeous fall/winter colors being added to the mix: Deep Fuschia, Faded Black, Matte Green and Hot Chocolate.
Bamboo Wovens - Retro Pink
We've upgraded them with a sustainably-processed bamboo woven fabric that feels like soft cotton. It features all of bamboo's powerful benefits including built-in sun protection, breathability, anti-bacterial properties and superior moisture wicking for a fresh, comfortable feeling. Available in the Standard size, Retro Pink is a must-have classic pink color that you'll reach for again and again.
Our Bamboo Woven Prints also recently debuted, adding another level of richness and depth to our Wovens category! We are starting out this exclusive, limited edition collection with four beautiful Woven Prints: the Blazing Prowess Hijab, the Boundless Ambition Hijab, the Fearless Leopard Hijab and the Bold Boa Hijab. These names were carefully chosen to reflect the positive threads we are encouraging you to weave into your lives.
The Bamboo Woven Prints are the same length and width as our standard Bamboo Wovens (74” X 27”) and have the same fibers and sustainability properties as our original Wovens. And how did we choose the particular colors and patterns in this first collection of Bamboo Woven Prints? Our team studied the history of what you – our community – gravitates towards with our chiffon prints to understand what types of prints, patterns and colors are your favorites.
We were intentional with our color choices, knowing that this was going to drop in the fall, and so we wanted them to work well especially for fall/winter. Lizzy Walsh, HH’s Product Development Manager, says community recommendations were a driving force in how the team narrowed down print designs. Insha’Allah we plan on bringing you another limited edition collection of spring/summer-inspired Bamboo Woven Prints in the coming months!

Wash & Care for These Beauties
Because naturally-derived fibers are more porous than synthetics like polyester, washing with like colors is extra important to prevent bleeding. It's a good idea to wash super dark or vibrant colors alone the first time to make sure they don't discolor other items.
Soft fabrics like wovens or jersey are naturally more prone to pilling than more "crisp" or synthetic fabrics like our polyester chiffon. To prolong the life of your woven hijabs as long as possible, hand-washing is encouraged.
Care instructions:
1. Machine-wash warm with only other scarves in like colors, or hand-wash in mild detergent. Do not use bleach. (It’s important not to mix them in with bulky items like jeans or sweatshirts that can twist, pull or rip your hijabs. A good tip is to use a fabric care bag to protect these hijabs in the washer and dryer.)
2. Tumble dry low and remove immediately, or hang or lay flat to air-dry.
3. For makeup or oil stains, spot-treat with color-safe stain remover (our favorite is OxyClean) and then wash as normal.
4. Steam or iron on medium heat to get wrinkles out. (Storing them right away after you wash or use them can save a lot of time later! Helpful hint – if you roll them rather than fold, it can further help to reduce wrinkles!
We hope you love our Bamboo Wovens and Bamboo Woven Prints as much as we do!
